newy.com.au – Hunter residents will be able to get practical advice on preparing for bushfires, floods and storms at a free emergency preparedness expo at Maitland Showground on Saturday, 14 November 2026.
The joint Dungog, Maitland and Port Stephens Emergency Management and Community Resilience Expo will run from 9am to 2pm, bringing together emergency responders, government agencies and other organisations that support communities during disasters.
NSW Police, the Rural Fire Service and State Emergency Service are among the agencies residents will be able to speak with about local risks and steps to protect their families and properties.
Practical displays, live demonstrations and interactive activities will explain emergency procedures and the work agencies do before, during and after disasters. Visitors will be encouraged to ask questions and seek advice they can put into practice at home.
Dungog Shire Mayor Digby Rayward said preparation was important given how quickly conditions could change.
“In Dungog Shire, we know firsthand how quickly bushfires, floods and severe storms can impact our communities, and how important it is to be prepared before an emergency happens.”
Port Stephens Mayor Leah Anderson said the joint event would help residents access advice and connect with emergency services.
“Emergencies don’t stop at local government borders. This Expo will make it easier for our residents to have the practical tools, expert knowledge, and emergency connections they need to protect their families and properties before disaster strikes,” Mayor Anderson said.
The expo is open to people of all ages, with live entertainment and food also planned.
