newy.com.au – Transport for NSW has apologised to Newcastle and Central Coast rugby league fans whose journeys to Sunday’s NRL preliminary final in Sydney were disrupted by a failed freight train at Warnervale.
Crews repaired the freight train and moved it about 2.30pm, with normal intercity services resuming soon afterwards in both directions on the Central Coast and Newcastle Line.
Transport for NSW said fans heading home after the game at Sydney Olympic Park could expect frequent services, but urged passengers to allow plenty of extra travel time.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this incident with a failed freight train,” Sydney Trains head of rail operations Jas Tumber said.
Mr Tumber said staff had organised train diversions and replacement buses to help passengers reach the match against Penrith.
“We thank passengers for their patience, and wish them a smooth journey home tonight.”
Passengers were advised to listen to announcements and check information displays for service updates on their return journey.
Separately, signal and power issues at Harris Park caused delays on the T1 Western Line. Transport for NSW said repairs had been completed and trains had returned to normal service.
