newy.com.au – A new operator is being sought for the Croatian Wickham Sports Club, proposals are invited for sporting, hospitality, events and music-related uses at the long-running Albert Street venue.
Colliers has opened a request for proposals for the club’s future operation at 20 Albert Street. The venue occupies about 8139 square metres of Crown land beside Wickham Park and a children’s playground, submissions closing at 4pm on 15 October 2026.
The invitation leaves prospective operators room to suggest how the venue could be used, rather than prescribing a single concept. Colliers is seeking interest from registered clubs, hospitality businesses, sporting organisations, community groups and other venue operators.
“While the site has a strong connection to its bowling club heritage, we are open to seeing what the market can come up with,” Colliers national director Ben Curran said.
The property includes an approximately 652-square-metre clubhouse with established bar facilities, a commercial kitchen and club rooms. Outside are three former bowling green areas, providing substantial outdoor space alongside the existing hospitality facilities.
Colliers says the proposals could include recreational uses consistent with the site’s zoning, as well as concepts that maintain the venue’s connections with Newcastle’s music community. The campaign is seeking an operator for the venue, rather than offering the Crown land for sale.
The site operated as Wickham Bowling Club from 1977 before becoming the Croatian Wickham Sports Club in 1989. It is close to Newcastle’s city centre, Honeysuckle and the transport interchange.
