newy.com.au – A section of Old Punt Road will close to northbound traffic for about 16 months from Wednesday, September 23, as crews carry out road upgrades following the opening of the M1 Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace.
The closure will apply between Kennington Drive and the Pacific Highway. Southbound traffic will remain open, with a 60km/h speed limit in place until the work is complete.
Drivers will also face night-time lane closures and intermittent stoppages south of Kennington Drive, where pavement repairs will extend to Tomago Road.
Transport for NSW said the work forms part of the M1 to Raymond Terrace – Heatherbrae Bypass project. It includes upgrading Old Punt Road between the Pacific Highway and Kennington Drive and rehabilitating the pavement on the southern section.
Day work will generally take place from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and from 8am to 5pm on Saturdays. South of Kennington Drive, crews will work from 6pm to 6am, Sunday to Friday nights.
The night works will require traffic to use the opposite side of the road at times, with lane closures, temporary speed limits of 40km/h and intermittent stoppages. Transport for NSW has advised drivers to allow extra travel time and follow signs and traffic controllers.
Operators of oversize or overmass vehicles with a ground contact width greater than 4.5 metres, or an overall width greater than 5.5 metres, are asked to contact the project team on 1800 094 895 at least one day before travelling. The agency warned that failing to make contact could result in significant delays.
Vehicles travelling under a permit must remain on their approved route unless an updated permit is obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
Traffic updates are available through Live Traffic NSW and its app. Drivers can receive phone updates by searching for Black Hill or Tomago in the app, selecting the incident and choosing “Follow”.
