newy.com.au – Two teenage boys have been charged after an SUV reported stolen crashed into a concrete barrier at Raymond Terrace during a police pursuit on Friday.
The boys, aged 15 and 14, were arrested nearby and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station. The older boy was granted conditional bail, while the younger boy was refused bail.
Police said officers were patrolling Taylors Beach about 8.50am on 18 September following reports of dangerous driving. A short time later, they attempted to stop a Toyota SUV on Port Stephens Drive after inquiries revealed it had been reported stolen.
The driver allegedly failed to stop, prompting a pursuit along Nelson Bay Road. Police ended the pursuit before restarting it on the same road at Salt Ash a short time later.
The pursuit continued onto Richardson Road towards Raymond Terrace before the SUV crashed into a concrete barrier on Mount Hall Road. Police said two occupants got out of the vehicle before the arrests nearby.
The 15-year-old was charged with two counts of taking and driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent, dishonestly obtaining property by deception and a police pursuit offence involving failing to stop and driving at speed. He is due to appear before a children’s court on Wednesday 11 November.
The 14-year-old was charged with two counts of being carried in a vehicle taken without the owner’s consent. He is due to appear before a children’s bail division court on Saturday 19 September.
