newy.com.au – Detectives are appealing for information about a third teenage boy after two teenagers were charged over an alleged break-in and knife threat at a New Lambton Heights home.
Police were called to the Ridgeway Drive property about 5am on Sunday, July 19. Officers were told three teenage boys had allegedly entered the home and attempted to steal two vehicles when a resident confronted them.
The boys allegedly threatened the resident with a knife in the driveway before leaving in a red hatchback that police allege had been stolen from the Central Coast. Officers established a crime scene, and Newcastle City Police District and Operation Soteria began investigating.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested in Rutherford on July 22 and charged with seven offences. The charges include aggravated break and enter with intent while armed, taking and driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.
Police arrested a 15-year-old boy in Broadmeadow on August 17 following further inquiries. He was charged with nine offences, including aggravated break and enter in company, larceny, dangerous driving, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.
Both boys were refused bail when they appeared in a children’s court on the days of their arrests. The 16-year-old is due to return to court on September 21, while the 15-year-old’s next appearance is scheduled for September 28.
As the investigation continues, police want to speak with a third teenage boy seen in the area at the time of the incident. Anyone with information about the boy or the alleged break-in is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information is managed confidentially.
