newy.com.au – Port Stephens community groups, businesses and creatives can apply for council funding of up to $20,000 for projects designed to improve public spaces and support local town centres.
Applications have opened for Port Stephens Council’s Vibrant Spaces Fund, which supports permanent creative and structural improvements in public areas. Eligible projects could include public art, lighting, community beautification and historical, interactive or storytelling installations.
Applicants are encouraged to work with residents, businesses, community organisations or industry groups and show how their project could increase visitation, foot traffic or trade.
A separate Environmental Projects Fund is offering grants of between $1000 and $5000 for local sustainability initiatives. The fund has a total pool of $20,000 and will support projects that improve biodiversity, reduce carbon emissions or protect native ecosystems.
Port Stephens Mayor Anderson said the two programs allowed residents and organisations to act on ideas for their communities.
“These funds give locals the support they need to create or contribute to vibrant public spaces, protect the environment, and ultimately improve wellbeing and liveability in Port Stephens,” Mayor Anderson said.
“The Vibrant Spaces Fund is about creating places that tell our stories and reflect what makes each of our communities unique.”
Applications for the Environmental Projects Fund close on September 30, 2026, while Vibrant Spaces Fund applications close on October 31, 2026.
The grants form part of the council’s broader Community Funding Program, which also includes funding streams for community events, sporting excellence, major event sponsorship and placemaking.
