newy.com.au – A 24-year-old man has been charged with kidnapping, choking and assault offences after a woman and child were allegedly held against their will in Sydney and assaulted on several occasions.
Police were called to a home at Bolton Point, Lake Macquarie, about 3.30pm on Tuesday following reports that a domestic violence assault was under way.
Officers forced their way into the home and used capsicum spray while arresting the man.
NSW Ambulance paramedics assessed the woman and child before taking them to John Hunter Hospital for further examination. Their conditions were not disclosed.
Police will allege the man threatened and assaulted the woman and child several times. They further allege the pair had been held against their will at a location in Auburn, in western Sydney.
The man was taken to Toronto Police Station and charged with 12 offences.
They include two counts each of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, using an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, stalking or intimidation, and common assault.
He was also charged with intentionally choking a person without consent and kidnapping with intent to commit a serious indictable offence occasioning actual bodily harm. The assault, choking, intimidation and common assault charges were recorded as domestic violence-related offences.
Police refused the man bail ahead of his scheduled appearance in Bail Division Court 2 on Wednesday.
