newy.com.au – Revised plans for the proposed $463 million Trinity Point development at Morisset Park would replace 29 apartments with 19 additional hotel rooms and allow six waterfront towers to rise by up to three metres.
Lake Macquarie City Council has placed Johnson Property Group’s new development application on public exhibition until September 4. The proposal includes a 172-room hotel and 131 residential apartments, compared with 153 hotel rooms and 160 apartments in the earlier design.
The revised building heights are intended to reduce the depth of basement excavation beneath the six curved towers. While the changes would add up to three metres to the buildings, detailed heights for each tower were not included in the council announcement.
Parking is also being reconsidered. Spaces within the hotel and apartment towers would fall from 614 to 491, a reduction of 123.
Johnson Property Group has lodged a separate modification for a six-storey car park, which the council says would maintain the project’s previous parking-space ratio. That proposal is expected to go on exhibition in coming weeks and will be considered separately from the hotel and apartment application now open for comment.
The resort and apartment proposal forms part of the wider Trinity Point development on the southern end of the Morisset Peninsula. The waterfront precinct already includes a marina and residential development.
A previous concept approval established the broad planning framework for the site, but the latest application seeks approval for the project’s detailed design. The council has been appointed as the authority responsible for assessing and determining the application.
Council development planning and regulation director David Antcliff said the proposal was among the largest the city had considered.
“This is one of the most significant proposed developments in our city’s history, and it reflects the continued growth and appeal of Lake Macquarie,” he said.
“Developments of this scale can help support local jobs, attract visitors and contribute to our economic activity.”
The application remains a proposal and no construction approval has been granted through the exhibition process. Residents can make submissions to the council before the September 4 deadline, with a separate opportunity to comment on the multi-storey car park expected after those plans are placed on display.
