newy.com.au – A cow and bull grazing in the median strip forced temporary lane closures on the M1 near Cooranbong on Thursday afternoon.
Police were called to the motorway about 1.30pm on August 6 after motorists reported the wandering livestock, which posed a hazard to traffic.
The middle lanes in both directions were closed while officers contained the animals and searched for their owner.
The owner later helped police herd the pair away from the motorway and into a nearby paddock. The operation ended without incident.
Traffic resumed after the animals were secured and the road was cleared. Police said the local council had been notified.
The incident prompted numerous comments online from people who said cattle had repeatedly escaped in the area during recent weeks. Several questioned whether it was the same bull reportedly seen loose on earlier occasions and called for the animal’s enclosure to be better secured.
