newy.com.au – Hunter sporting clubs could benefit from a $10 million statewide funding round aimed at increasing participation, supporting volunteers and expanding competitions and programs.
Applications for the NSW government’s 2026-27 Organisation Support Program close on Monday, September 7.
The program is aimed at State Sporting Organisations and State Sporting Organisations for People with a Disability, rather than individual community clubs. Funding is intended to benefit grassroots sport through the work those peak bodies do with affiliated clubs and volunteers.
The $10 million is a statewide pool, with no specific amount reserved for the Hunter.
The government says the latest round includes an additional $7 million and takes its total funding through the program to $35 million since it came to office.
Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp and Cessnock MP Clayton Barr have encouraged eligible organisations connected with their electorates to apply.
“Our community sporting groups are powered by teams of passionate volunteers, and this investment will provide direct support to ensure they continue to thrive,” Mr Crakanthorp said.
Mr Barr said sport played an important role in bringing people together and strengthening local communities.
“I encourage sporting organisations across the Cessnock Electorate to take advantage of this opportunity and apply for funding that can help them grow, support their volunteers and provide more opportunities for locals to participate,” he said.
Sports Minister Steve Kamper said the program would also help create pathways from community sport to national, Olympic and Paralympic competition.
Applications can be made through the NSW Grant and Funding Finder.
