newy.com.au – Motorists face changed traffic conditions on Freemans Drive at Freemans Waterhole from Monday, 10 August, as Transport for NSW begins the final stages of slope remediation work.
Work will be carried out between Gills Lane and Palmers Road, including construction of a rock buttress designed to prevent future slope failure and associated stockpiling activities. About 30 shifts are planned over six weeks, weather permitting.
Crews will work at the main site from 6am to 6pm on weekdays and every second weekend. Stockpiling operations will run from 7am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and from 8am to 6pm on Sundays. No work will take place on public holidays.
A 40km/h speed limit, traffic control and closure of the northbound slow lane will be in place during the work and, at times, outside working hours. Northbound traffic will continue to use the fast lane, with intermittent stopping when required.
Motorists have been urged to drive to the conditions and follow signs and directions from traffic controllers. Cyclists should also be particularly vigilant because the temporary lane configuration may change typical vehicle behaviour along the steep northbound uphill section.
Oversize and over-mass vehicles up to four metres wide may pass through the site only between 9.30am and 2.30pm from Monday to Friday. Operators can arrange access on arrival by contacting works supervisor Rhys Appo on 0411 021 138 or UHF channel 15. Heavy vehicles travelling under a permit must remain on the approved route unless an updated permit is obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
