newy.com.au – Police are searching for a van stolen during a break-in at a Cessnock hotel and later pursued through Neath and Weston before officers abandoned the chase over safety concerns.

Hunter Valley Police District officers were patrolling Cessnock Road at Neath about 3am on Monday when they attempted to stop the white Toyota van after it was seen being driven dangerously.

The driver failed to stop, prompting a pursuit that continued through Station Street at Weston before being terminated because of safety concerns.

Police were called to a hotel on Wollombi Road, Cessnock, about 4am following reports of a break and enter. They were told an unknown man had broken into the business sometime between 1.30am and 4am, ransacked the counter and kitchen, and stolen a white van.

A crime scene was established and detectives began investigating, with inquiries linking the break-in and pursuit.

Police have released an image of the stolen vehicle, a white 2018 Toyota HiAce with NSW registration FGI63L, through the Hunter Valley Police District’s social media pages.

Anyone with information about the van or either incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information will be treated confidentially and should not be reported through NSW Police social media pages.
