newy.com.au – Maitland residents are being encouraged to nominate women making significant contributions to the community for the 2027 Maitland Local Woman of the Year Award.
The NSW Local Woman of the Year Awards recognise women from every electorate who have distinguished themselves as volunteers, leaders, mentors, businesswomen or role models.
Women of all ages and backgrounds are eligible, with the award celebrating the dedication, generosity and leadership that help build stronger, more connected communities.
Maitland MP Jenny Aitchison said the award provided an opportunity to acknowledge women whose work often occurred without public recognition.
“Every year I am inspired by the incredible women who are nominated for this award and the difference they make in our community,” Ms Aitchison said.
“Maitland is home to women who give their time, skills and compassion to support others, often without expecting recognition. This award is an opportunity to celebrate those contributions.
“Selecting just one recipient each year is never easy because the calibre of nominations is always exceptional. I encourage everyone to take the time to nominate someone who deserves to be recognised.”
The 2026 Maitland recipient, Barbara “Barbie” Bird, was recognised for more than 30 years of service to the Maitland District Netball Association. Her work has supported generations of local players, families and volunteers.
All 2027 nominees will be invited to an awards event hosted by Ms Aitchison and the Woman’s Network Hunter on 26 February 2027. The winner will also be invited to attend the NSW Women of the Year Awards ceremony at ICC Sydney on 4 March 2027.
Nominations can be submitted at https://www.jennyaitchison.com.au/how-can-i-help/2027-maitland-local-woman-of-the-year/ and close on 9 October 2026.
