newy.com.au – Newcastle ferry passengers will have access to an additional 19 services each week from Monday 10 August, alongside minor timetable changes affecting some evening and late-night trips.
The extra services will operate between Queens Wharf and Stockton, with more trips each morning as well as on weeknights and Saturdays. Some existing weekday and weekend services will be adjusted to accommodate staff meal breaks at the new ferry office and amenities in Stockton.
Keolis Hunter general manager Arsene Durand-Raucher said the changes were designed to improve services while minimising disruption.
“We know the ferry is a hugely important link between Stockton and the city, for residents, workers and visitors. This timetable change aims to further increase ferry services and provide required breaks for our staff while minimising impact to customers,” Mr Durand-Raucher said.
Passengers have been encouraged to check their trips before the new timetable begins by visiting newcastletransport.info, using their preferred travel app or scanning the QR codes displayed at the wharves.
Ferry crews have meanwhile moved into the new Stockton facility, with Keolis Hunter Ferry Master Jess Plumsted saying staff had received a warm welcome.
“It’s a beautiful new space and it’s already starting to feel quite homely. Everyone at Stockton has also gone out of their way to make us feel welcome,” Ms Plumsted said.
Keolis Hunter will hold a community event at Griffith Park in Stockton on Thursday 23 July, inviting passengers, residents and local businesses to visit the new facilities and meet the ferry team.
“If you’re free on Thursday 23 July, I encourage you to come down and enjoy a coffee with the team,” Mr Durand-Raucher said.
“It’s a way to thank you for welcoming us to Stockton and getting to know our neighbours from local businesses, residents and the broader community.”
