newy.com.au – A handgun has been seized and a man and woman arrested after police pursued a vehicle from Kotara to Lambton on Thursday morning.
Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District were responding to a report of a break and enter when they tried to stop a vehicle on Park Avenue, Kotara, about 6.35am on Thursday 2 July 2026.
Police allege the driver failed to stop when directed, prompting a pursuit. The vehicle was followed along Charlestown Road to Hillsborough Road, then along Brunker Road to Russell Street at Lambton.
Police said the vehicle stopped about 6.50am at the intersection of Northcott and Wade streets at Kotara, where a man and woman were arrested. They were taken to Newcastle Police Station.
A handgun was allegedly found when the car was searched and has been seized for further examination. A police vehicle was damaged during the incident, but no officers were injured.
