newy.com.au – A 50-year-old woman is in a stable condition in John Hunter Hospital after being shot in the arm when two people with their faces covered approached a group leaving a Gateshead unit on Tuesday night.
Police attached to Lake Macquarie Police District have been told two women and two men were leaving a unit on Paper Street about 8.45pm when they were confronted by two people, one of whom was holding a firearm.
Two shots were fired towards the group, police said. One round struck the woman in her right upper arm, while the second hit a window of the unit.
All six people then left the scene. Police were not alerted to the shooting until about 9.20pm, when officers established a crime scene and began canvassing the area.
After making inquiries, police found the injured woman at a home in Charlestown. She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to John Hunter Hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.
A 38-year-old woman remains at a police station within the command as detectives continue inquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
