newy.com.au – A man and woman have been arrested after a police pursuit was terminated for safety reasons and a sedan later crashed with a motorcycle in Lake Macquarie this morning.
Police said officers attached to Newcastle City Police District attempted to stop a sedan on Glebe Road, Hamilton South, about 9.45am on Tuesday.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, police initiated a pursuit through several suburbs of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. The pursuit was later terminated on Macquarie Road, Cardiff, because of safety concerns.
A short time later, police were called to Macquarie Road, Warners Bay, after reports of a two-vehicle crash. Officers arrived to find the sedan had been involved in a collision with a motorcycle.
The motorcycle rider, a 28-year-old man, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries before being taken to Belmont Hospital for further assessment.
Police said the occupants of the sedan allegedly left the scene after the crash. Following inquiries, a 22-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were arrested in a vehicle on the Inner-City Bypass at Gateshead a short time later.
They were both taken to Belmont Police Station, where inquiries are continuing. Police are appealing for anyone with dashcam or other footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Newcastle City Police.
