newy.com.au – A 41-year-old man has been charged after an alleged break and enter at a Merewether Heights home led police to a search warrant where stolen property and weapons were allegedly found.
Police were called to a home on Rembrandt Drive, Merewether Heights, on Saturday 20 June following reports of a break and enter. Officers were told a door had allegedly been forced open and the home ransacked, with a handbag, jewellery, cash, a laptop and credit cards reported stolen.
Police will allege in court that eight fraudulent transactions were later made across Newcastle using the stolen cards.
After further inquiries, officers from Newcastle City Police District executed a search warrant at a home on Sun Hill Drive, Merewether Heights, about 11.30am on Tuesday 23 June.
During the search, police allegedly located and seized several items of interest, including a handbag, purse, cards, two gel blaster firearms, two knuckledusters, a slingshot and a taser.
A 41-year-old man was arrested nearby and taken to Newcastle Police Station, where he was charged with 14 offences. They include seven counts of dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception, two counts of goods suspected stolen in or on premises, two counts of possessing or using a prohibited weapon without a permit, break and enter house and steal, receiving or disposing of stolen property, and possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm.
He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 16 July 2026.
