newy.com.au – Motorists using the M1 Pacific Motorway, John Renshaw Drive, the New England Highway and the Pacific Highway are being warned to expect delays and changed traffic conditions next week as work continues on the M1 extension to Raymond Terrace.
Transport for NSW said extended stops of up to 20 minutes would be in place while crews install signage over the eastbound ramp from John Renshaw Drive to the New England Highway on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights, from 10pm to 6am.
Further night works will affect the M1 at the John Renshaw Drive and Weakleys Drive intersection, where southbound traffic will be diverted onto the northbound carriageway under a contraflow arrangement on Thursday and Friday between 7pm and 5am while asphalt work is carried out. During those works, there will be no access to Lenaghans Drive from the southbound lanes of the M1.
Major construction will continue across the project area from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and from 8am to 5pm on Saturday, with additional out-of-hours work from 7pm to 5am on weeknights.
Lane closures, contraflow arrangements, intermittent stoppages and temporary 40km/h speed limits will be used at several locations. Night works from Monday to Friday will affect the M1 Pacific Motorway at Beresfield and Black Hill, John Renshaw Drive at Beresfield, the New England Highway at Tarro, and the Pacific Highway at Tomago and Heatherbrae.
Day works from Monday to Friday will also take place on Lenaghans Drive at Black Hill, Old Punt Road near the Pacific Highway at Tomago and the eastbound lanes of the New England Highway at Tarro.
Motorists have been urged to allow extra travel time, follow signs and the directions of traffic controllers, and use alternative routes where possible.
Operators of oversize or over-mass vehicles with a ground contact wider than 3.2 metres, or an overall width wider than 4.5 metres, have been advised to contact the project team on 1800 094 895 at least one day before travelling. Transport for NSW said significant delays could occur if operators failed to make contact before their trip, and reminded permit holders they must not leave an approved route unless they obtain an updated permit from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
