newy.com.au – A 54-year-old man has been charged after a passenger was allegedly threatened and intimidated during and after a bus trip through Newcastle last week.
Police allege the incident began about 12.30pm on Thursday, June 11, when a man was travelling on a bus along King Street, Newcastle, and another passenger began threatening him.
When the man got off the bus on Darby Street at Cooks Hill, the passenger allegedly continued to abuse and intimidate him. The matter was reported to Newcastle City Police District on Saturday, June 13, and officers began an investigation.
Following extensive inquiries by the Police Transport Command North/Central Team, officers attended a unit on Ocean Street, Merewether, about 10.45am on Wednesday, June 17. A 54-year-old man was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station.
He was charged with using offensive language in or near a public place or school, and stalking or intimidating with intent to cause fear of physical or other harm. He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday, July 16.
