newy.com.au – Ausgrid has launched a consumer education website to help Australians understand home electrification and lower energy costs over time, as the NSW Government has announced new loans and discounts for household energy-saving upgrades.

The Good Energy is Electric website, at goodenergy.ausgrid.com.au, is aimed at homeowners, renters and apartment residents who are considering electric appliances, systems or other steps to reduce energy use. Ausgrid says the site is intended to give households clearer, trusted information at a time when many are motivated by bill pressure but unsure where to start.

The launch coincides with the State Government’s announcement of loans and discounts to help households lower power bills, with the Government saying the program will make it easier for families to invest in upgrades and take greater control of their energy use.

Research underpinning the website found cost-of-living pressures were customers’ top concern, with many wanting to cut bills but lacking confidence in how electrification works or whether it will pay off. The research found 67 per cent of customers wanted clear cost comparisons between electric and gas use for hot water, cooktops, heating and cooling, 65 per cent wanted step-by-step guidance on upgrading home appliances and systems, and 73 per cent valued real-life stories from people who had switched to an electric vehicle.

Ausgrid Group Executive – External Affairs & Strategy Tim Jarratt said the benefits of electrification should not be limited to homeowners. “We’re focused on making sure the benefits of electrification are accessible to more than just homeowners. Renters, apartment dwellers and people who don’t own their homes also want to lower their bills and improve how they live, and they shouldn’t be left behind.”

“Today’s announcement from the NSW Government is a positive and practical step to help more households access the technologies that can lower their bills and improve comfort at home,” Mr Jarratt said.

He said information and confidence were significant barriers for many households. “But a big part of the challenge isn’t just cost – it’s confidence. People want to know what’s right for their situation, and we’re working to give all customers the clarity and practical guidance they need to take the next step.”

The website includes a six-part ‘Good Energy Guide’ podcast, how-to videos, myth-busting explainers and customer case studies, as well as low-cost steps households can take now to reduce energy use and bills.

Mr Jarratt said the website was designed to cut through confusion and support better decisions. “Electrification can feel complex, but it doesn’t have to be. We’ve created simple, practical resources to help people understand their options, compare costs, and take the next step when it’s right for them.”
