newy.com.au – Community organisations in Newcastle are being encouraged to apply for a share of $1 million in NSW Government funding to support multicultural festivals and events over the next year.
The Stronger Together Festival and Event Grants Program offers grants of between $5,000 and $20,000 for events and activities that bring people from different backgrounds together and celebrate the cultural diversity of NSW.
Applications are open for multicultural festivals and events taking place between 1 October 2026 and 30 September 2027. The program is administered by Multicultural NSW on behalf of the Minns Labor Government, which says it supports hundreds of community events each year celebrating diversity through food, music, entertainment and cultural traditions.
Member for Newcastle Tim Crakanthorp said local organisations should consider applying for support. “The Newcastle community is wonderfully diverse; our city is a home to all.”
“Local festivals and cultural events bring the whole community together and show pride in our multiculturalism.”
“I encourage any organisations planning a multicultural event to make an application.”
Minister for Multiculturalism Steve Kamper said the grants were intended to strengthen community connection and inclusion.
“It’s never been more important for communities to get together in-person to celebrate the many cultures that make up NSW.
“These grants are about fostering understanding and belonging, by giving the whole community the chance to taste, experience, and learn about diverse cultures.
“Every year we are impressed by the creativity and energy our multicultural organisations bring to these events, from small local gatherings to major multicultural festivals.
“The NSW Government is proud to support them to turn their ideas into events that are highlights on the community’s calendar.”
