newy.com.au – Work has begun on a 12-week upgrade to parking access and pedestrian safety at Speers Point Park, Lake Macquarie City Council is rebuilding a 170m stretch of road near the park’s main entrance.
The project covers the roadway beside the park between the Park Road roundabout and the yacht club car park, a busy section used by visitors to one of the Hunter Region’s most popular public recreation areas.
Council said the works include rebuilding the road pavement, replacing damaged kerb, improving drainage and installing a raised pedestrian crossing near the park’s main entrance.
Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Assets Dayne Harris said the new pavement was designed to last up to 30 years.
“Speers Point Park is a focal point for recreation and major events like Living Smart Festival,” he said.
“These works will enhance parking, access and pedestrian safety for the thousands of people who use this site each year.”
“We’ve scheduled the work during winter, outside the major event season, to minimise impact on the community.”
Construction is expected to take about 12 weeks, weather permitting. Short delays are likely during the work, and the car park’s EV charger may be inaccessible for short periods.
