newy.com.au – A man has been taken to John Hunter Hospital after a vehicle rolled onto its roof on the Newcastle Inner City Bypass at Mt Hutton on Sunday night, trapping him inside.
Emergency services were called to the crash about 7.30pm and found the vehicle overturned. Fire and Rescue crews were brought in to free the trapped man from the wreckage.
A witness told newy.com.au the vehicle appeared to have been travelling in the southbound lanes before crashing through trees in the centre median, going over a wire fence and landing on its roof in the northbound lanes. The witness said it looked like an older Land Cruiser.
The northbound lanes were closed for a time while emergency crews worked at the scene and cleanup was carried out. The lanes later reopened as the recovery operation continued.
NSW Ambulance told newy.com.au the man was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
