newy.com.au – Emergency services evacuated a three storey unit in Hamilton South on Friday night after a fire broke out inside the unoccupied second floor unit on Fowler Street.

Crews were first dispatched to the scene about 7.15pm, on arrival fire teams discovered the fire started on a mattress. Residents were forced to remain outside the building for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident and made the area safe.

NSW Ambulance assessed three patients at the scene for minor smoke inhalation. None were taken to hospital.

Police have not yet determined whether the fire is suspicious. The unit has been boarded up, and officers are expected to return in the morning as inquiries continue.

The incident adds to a series of regular unit and vehicle fires in the Hamilton South area.
