newy.com.au – Two teenage boys have been charged after a 13-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted near Newcastle Interchange on Saturday night.

Police said officers from Police Transport Command’s Northern Satellite were patrolling the Newcastle Interchange area about 9pm on May 30 when they were notified of an assault on Stewart Avenue, Newcastle West.

Officers found the 13-year-old with facial injuries and were told two unknown people had assaulted him before leaving the area on foot. The boy later attended hospital for assessment.

Police made extensive inquiries in the area on the night, but those allegedly involved could not be found.

About 8am on Wednesday, June 3, officers attended a unit in Stockton and arrested a 16-year-old boy. He was taken to Waratah Police Station and charged with shoplifting, assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company, and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear at a children’s court on Wednesday, where he was granted conditional bail to reappear on Monday, June 22.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested in Broadmeadow about 5pm the same day and taken to Newcastle Police Station. He was charged with shoplifting and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Monday, July 13.
