newy.com.au – Motorists are being warned to allow extra time around the M1 Pacific Motorway, Black Hill, Beresfield, Tarro and Tomago this week as construction work continues on the M1 extension to Raymond Terrace.

Transport for NSW says changed traffic conditions will be in place from Sunday, May 31, with major work continuing across the project during standard construction hours and overnight.

From the night of Tuesday, June 2, southbound lanes of the M1 Pacific Motorway at Black Hill, south of Lenaghans Drive, will change as crews prepare for the motorway opening later this year. A third lane will be introduced, with the left lane merging about 200 metres ahead, and motorists have been told to watch for construction vehicles entering from the right.

Further overnight changes will affect southbound M1 traffic on Wednesday, June 3, and Thursday, June 4, when vehicles will be diverted onto the northbound carriageway in a contraflow arrangement at the John Renshaw Drive and Weakleys Drive intersection. The diversion will run from 7pm to 5am while asphalt work is carried out, and there will be no access to Lenaghans Drive from the southbound lanes of the M1 during that time.

At Tomago, the intersection of Old Punt Road and Tomago Road at the Tomago Road roundabout will be under traffic control on Sunday, May 31, for planned power outages, with short stoppages expected.

Major construction work will continue from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and from 8am to 5pm on Saturday, with additional out-of-hours work scheduled from 7pm to 5am on weeknights.

Lane closures, contraflow arrangements, intermittent stoppages and temporary speed reductions to 40km/h will be in place from 7pm to 5am from Monday, June 1, to Friday, June 5, on the M1 Pacific Motorway at Beresfield and Black Hill, John Renshaw Drive at Beresfield, the New England Highway at Tarro and the Pacific Highway at Tomago and Heatherbrae.

Daytime impacts from 8am to 5pm between Monday, June 1, and Friday, June 5, will affect Lenaghans Drive at Black Hill, Old Punt Road near the Pacific Highway at Tomago and the eastbound New England Highway at Tarro.

Motorists have been advised to follow the directions of signs and traffic controllers and allow extra travel time through the work zones.

Operators of oversize or over mass vehicles with a ground contact wider than 3.2 metres or an overall width wider than 4.5 metres should contact the project team on 1800 094 895 at least one day before travelling. Transport for NSW says significant delays can occur if contact is not made before travel, and vehicles travelling under a permit must not leave the approved route unless an updated permit has been obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

More information is available through Live Traffic NSW, including updates via the Live Traffic app by searching for “Black Hill” or “Tomago” and following the incident.
