newy.com.au – Motorists across the Hunter are being warned to expect changed overnight traffic conditions from Thursday as Transport for NSW carries out essential maintenance work at nine intersections.

The work will involve saw cutting the road and updating sensors at intersections to improve vehicle detection at traffic lights. Transport for NSW said the program would be carried out from Sunday to Thursday nights, with crews spending up to three hours at each intersection, weather permitting.

The works are expected to take two weeks to complete. During that time, traffic control, lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h will be in place on the approach to, and at, affected intersections to protect workers and road users.

Named work sites include:

– Metcalfe Street at Thomas Street, Wallsend.
– Newcastle Road at Dent Street, Lambton.
– Warners Bay Road at Dunkley Parade, Mount Hutton
– Pacific Highway at Warners Bay Road, Charlestown.
– Cary Street at The Boulevarde, Toronto.
– Fairfax Road at The Esplanade, Warners Bay.
– Ken Tubman Drive at Church Street, Maitland.
– New England Highway at Mitchell Drive, East Maitland.

Oversize and overmass vehicles will be able to move through each site. Road users have been advised to allow extra travel time, drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.

Transport for NSW thanked road users for their patience while the maintenance work is carried out.
