newy.com.au – A pedestrian has died on Maitland Road at Sandgate on Monday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene about 9.10am on Monday, May 25, following reports of a crash. Police from Newcastle City Police District were told a pedestrian had been hit by a truck.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the pedestrian at the scene before he was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition. Police have since been notified the man died in hospital. He is yet to be formally identified.
The truck driver, a 42-year-old man, was not injured, but was taken to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing.
Police have established a crime scene and inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are continuing.
