newy.com.au – Motorists using Swansea Bridge at Swansea are being advised to expect changed traffic conditions next week while essential maintenance is carried out on the Pacific Highway crossing.
Transport for NSW said the work would be undertaken from 7pm to 5am from Monday, May 25, for up to four nights, weather permitting, to reduce the impact on road users.
The maintenance will include work on the bridge locks and hydraulic cylinders, as well as inspections and testing of the bridge’s electrical, mechanical and hydraulic components and emergency systems.
One bridge will remain open at all times, with one lane operating in each direction while the work is under way. Traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
The bridge will not open to marine traffic during the night shifts. Motorists have been urged to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic controllers.
Operators of oversize and/or overmass vehicles, and heavy vehicles with ground contact or an overall width greater than 3 metres, are advised to contact the project team at least one day before travelling on 0421 541 116. Transport for NSW said delays would occur if prior contact was not made.
Freight operators have also been advised the project will operate on UHF channel 17. Vehicles travelling under a permit must not leave the approved route listed in the permit unless an updated permit is obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
