newy.com.au – A new clinical trials facility has officially opened in Charlestown, giving people in regional NSW greater access to medical research and emerging treatments without having to travel long distances.
Novatrials was launched on International Clinical Trials Day, with Jodie Harrison MP saying it was “an honour” to help officially open the new facility.
The Charlestown centre has been described as the first facility of its kind in the region and will conduct ethically approved Phase I to Phase III clinical trials.
The facility includes 31 inpatient beds, an on-site laboratory, pharmacy, infusion lounge, consulting rooms and an infectious disease room, allowing a broad range of clinical trial work to be carried out locally.
Ms Harrison said the opening would make a significant difference for people in regional NSW who had previously faced long travel times to take part in clinical trials.
“This new facility changes that- giving our community the opportunity to participate in groundbreaking research and access new treatments locally,” she said.
She congratulated those involved in bringing the project to life, describing Novatrials as a “world-class clinical trials facility” for Charlestown.
