newy.com.au – Firefighters forced their way into a smoke-filled New Lambton business early on Monday after an overnight fire broke out in Alma Road.
Crews from Lambton and Newcastle fire stations were called about 2.20am on Monday, 18 May, after reports of smoke issuing from a tobacconist. Fire and Rescue NSW said five fire trucks and 14 firefighters attended, with police and NSW Ambulance paramedics also at the scene.
When crews arrived, smoke was coming from the roof and roller door of the premises. Firefighters used a power saw to gain entry, then found what Lambton station described as an electrical fire and extinguished it.
The fire was contained to the single premises, which suffered smoke and water damage. There were no reports of injuries.
Alma Road was closed for a period while firefighters worked at the scene. Crews left about 4am.
Fire and Rescue NSW said the cause remained under investigation, while reminding the public not to overload power boards and to charge electrical devices only when they can be monitored.
