newy.com.au – An 80-year-old woman is in a critical condition after she was pinned against a brick wall by a car on Darby Street in Newcastle.
NSW Ambulance said the incident happened just after 2pm, with paramedics treating the woman at the scene for a head injury before taking her to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews were called about 2.41pm after reports a person had been pinned against a wall outside a mechanics workshop. Three trucks responded, including two from Lambton and one from Merewether, but the woman had been freed by the time they arrived.
A City of Newcastle structural engineer attended to inspect the stability of the brick wall after the impact. Police also attended, setting up lane closures on Darby Street and directing traffic around the scene.
Paramedics remained at the scene assessing another person following the incident, while NSW Police are investigating the circumstances.
Traffic remains heavy at the corner of King Street and Darby Street.
