newy.com.au – Motorists using Newcastle Road at Wallsend will face changed overnight traffic conditions later this month as maintenance work is carried out between Victory Parade and Diana Street.
Transport for NSW said the work would take place from 8pm on Monday, May 18, until 5am the following morning. It is expected to be completed in one night, weather permitting.
Traffic control will be in place during the work, including a single lane closure, alternating stop-slow arrangements and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h to protect workers and road users.
Eastbound motorists on Newcastle Road will not be able to turn right into Douglas Street, with a detour in place via The Crescent and Drury Street to rejoin Newcastle Road. Douglas Street will also be closed between Newcastle Road and Marie Street, with motorists detoured via Corindi Street, Alexander Street and Diana Street.
Vehicles travelling under a permit must not leave the approved route listed in the permit unless an updated permit is obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator. Oversize and over-mass vehicles will be required to call ahead on UHF channel 21 and will be directed through the site by traffic control as needed.
Motorists have been advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic controllers. More information is available through Live Traffic NSW, the Live Traffic NSW app or by calling 132 701.
