newy.com.au – Two teenage boys have been charged after a 49-year-old man was allegedly repeatedly assaulted and knocked unconscious on a bus at Belmont.

Emergency services were called to the Pacific Highway just after midday on Sunday after reports of an assault on board a bus.

Police from Lake Macquarie Police District and the Police Transport Command attended and were told a group of people had boarded the bus before an argument broke out with the man.

As the group was getting off the bus, the man was repeatedly assaulted, allegedly leaving him unconscious. He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for head and facial injuries before being taken to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment.

A short time later, police located and arrested nine youths at a fast-food restaurant in Belmont. Seven were later released pending further investigation.

Two boys, aged 13 and 15, were taken to Belmont Police Station and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others. Police said both refused to appear before a children’s court on Sunday.

Investigations are continuing.
