newy.com.au – A 55-year-old man has been refused bail and is due to face court today after two crashes at Glendale and an alleged knife threat led police to seize an unloaded firearm from his utility.
Police were called to Frederick Street about 2.40pm on Tuesday after reports of a crash. Officers were told a utility had allegedly crashed into the rear of another vehicle before driving from the scene to a carpark near Clare Street, where it allegedly crashed into a second vehicle.
No injuries have been reported.
Police allege that a short time after the crashes, the driver of the utility approached a man on Clare Street and threatened him with a large knife.
Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District attended and arrested the driver. During a search of his vehicle, police allegedly found and seized a second knife and an unloaded firearm.
The man was taken to Belmont Police Station and charged with eight offences, including driving recklessly, furiously or in a dangerous speed or manner; two counts of custody of a knife in a public place; carrying a knife visible in a public place causing fear for safety; possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm; not keeping a firearm safely; using an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence; and affray.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 on Wednesday.
