newy.com.au – Two Newcastle surf life saving clubs have secured funding for facility upgrades under the Minns Labor Government’s Surf Club Facility Program.
Stockton Surf Life Saving Club will receive $63,374 for a patrol room renovation, garage door replacement, and the installation of heating and cooling, while Dixon Park Surf Life Saving Club will receive $84,225 for a security system upgrade and integration.
The state government said surf life saving clubs across NSW had shared in $5.45 million through the program, with grants of up to $1 million available for projects involving the upgrade, restoration or construction of new surf lifesaving facilities. This year’s program also included grants for project design and planning.
Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp said the funding would help ensure local clubs remained equipped to serve the community.
“Surf lifesavers give so much to our local community, keeping everyone safe and happy along our coastline. The Surf Club Facility Program is a way to give back to them,” he said.
“These grants ensure local facilities are modern and fit-for-purpose so our surf lifesavers can continue delivering a world-class service.”
“Congratulations to successful applicants Stockton SLSC and Dixon Park SLSC.”
Sport Minister Steve Kamper said the program delivered critical support for surf life saving clubs across the state.
“The Surf Club Facility Program provides critical funding to our surf life saving clubs to enable them to better protect beachgoers,” he said.
“The awarding of $5.48 million for 61 projects is part of our four-year $21.6 million commitment to ensure our Surf Life Saving Clubs are modern, safe and inclusive.”
“Once completed, these 61 projects will ensure our surf life saving clubs can continue to deliver a world-class service and keep our beaches safe.”
