newy.com.au – A NSW Police constable has been charged after an investigation into a crash involving a motorcycle and a police vehicle at Woodberry, near Beresfield, last year.

Police said officers attempted to stop a suspected unregistered motorcycle on Kingstown Road about 7.40pm on Thursday, October 30, 2025. The rider, a 28-year-old man, allegedly accelerated away before losing control and colliding with a pole and a police vehicle.

The rider was assisted by police at the scene before being treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition. He has since been released from hospital.

Following extensive inquiries, the driver of the police vehicle, a 24-year-old constable attached to a Northern Region command, was charged on Wednesday with negligent driving not occasioning death or grievous bodily harm.

He was issued a court attendance notice to appear before Newcastle Local Court on April 14. The officer’s employment status is under review.
