newy.com.au – A 40-year-old man was due to face Bail Division Court 2 on Wednesday after being charged with multiple alleged drug supply offences following an investigation by Hunter Region Enforcement Squad detectives in Mayfield.
Police said Strike Force Norlita was established in March 2026 to investigate commercial drug supply offences in the Mayfield area. About 12.40pm on Tuesday 31 March 2026, officers were on Hanbury Street when they located a man allegedly acting suspiciously.
When officers approached him, the man allegedly tried to leave the scene before he was arrested after a brief foot pursuit and taken to Newcastle Police Station. Police will allege a search of the man uncovered 42 grams of a white crystal substance and $3845 in cash.
About 5.15pm, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at a hotel room on Hanbury Street, where police allegedly seized 717 grams of methylamphetamine, 215 grams of GHB, 0.7 grams of heroin, digital scales, $5850 in cash, resealable bags and capsicum spray.
The man was charged with two counts of supplying a prohibited drug in a quantity greater than indictable and less than commercial, one count of supplying a prohibited drug in a quantity greater than or equal to large commercial, two counts of dealing with property suspected to be the proceeds of crime, two counts of possessing a prohibited drug, and possessing or using a prohibited weapon without a permit.
He was refused bail and police said inquiries under Strike Force Norlita were continuing.
