newy.com.au – Sporting organisations across the Maitland electorate have secured a share of $50,000 in the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grant Program, part of $4.49 million awarded across the state.

Member for Maitland Jenny Aitchison said the program would support local clubs with minor facility upgrades, new equipment and projects aimed at encouraging participation in sport and active recreation. Grants of up to $20,000 were available in the round.

The successful Maitland electorate recipients were Western Suburbs Cricket Club, which received $12,500 for junior grassroots training equipment; East Maitland Bowling Club, $11,014 for a junior bowl development program; East Maitland Junior Rugby League Football Club, $10,000 for a new PA system; Maitland City Softball Club, $4,604 for development of junior players and officials and come and try days; Telarah Bowling Club, $4,000 for club uniforms; Thornton Park District Cricket Club, $3,986 for renewal of essential equipment; and Maitland Pony Club, $3,896 towards a canteen upgrade.

“Sport plays a vital role in bringing the Maitland community together. I commend all the clubs who submitted applications for their commitment to our collective health, wellbeing and sense of identity,” Ms Aitchison said.

“These grants will help our local clubs buy vital equipment and resources to enable more Maitland residents to participate in sport. This grant round saw so many great applications from the hardworking volunteers who deliver sports across our community year in year out. I congratulate the local sports organisations that were successful in securing funding.”

Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said: “The Minns Labor Government is backing communities and organisations across NSW to enjoy the benefits of sport and active recreation.”
