newy.com.au – Sporting organisations in the Newcastle electorate are among the recipients of the NSW Government’s $4.49 million Local Sport Grant Program, with 13 local clubs and associations to receive funding for equipment, programs and minor facility upgrades.
The program provides grants for projects aimed at supporting and encouraging participation in sport and active recreation across NSW. Grants of up to $20,000 were available, with up to $50,000 in Newcastle.
Successful Newcastle applicants are Northern Sport Fencing Association Incorporated, West Hockey Club Incorporated, Stockton Sharks Rugby League Football Club, Greater Hunter Coast Premier Cricket Club Incorporated, Bar In Water Polo Club, Waratah Netball Club Incorporated, Newcastle City & Eastern Districts Cricket Club, Newcastle Pambilang Sporting Club Incorporated, Strikers Softball Club Incorporated, Bar Reef Board Riders, Hunter Swim Club Incorporated, Bar Beach Tennis Club Incorporated and Cooks Hill Rugby Union Football Club Incorporated.
Member for Newcastle Tim Crakanthorp said sport played an important role in the city’s community life. “Newcastle is a city that loves its sport, and sports organisations play a crucial role in bringing the community together,” he said.
“This year, the program is supporting 13 sports clubs in Newcastle to purchase much-needed equipment and resources, from water polo, to netball, to cricket,” Mr Crakanthorp said.
“Congratulations to all the successful recipients, I can’t wait to see these projects take place, supporting local sporting communities.”
