newy.com.au – Sporting organisations in the Electorate of Cessnock will share in almost $50,000 under the NSW Government’s 2026 Local Sport Grant Program, part of a statewide funding pool of $4.49 million.
The program provides grants for minor facility upgrades, new equipment and programs aimed at supporting and encouraging participation in sport and active recreation across NSW.
In the Cessnock electorate, seven clubs across cricket, soccer, football and croquet were awarded funding.
Cessnock Supporters Cricket Club will receive $2,300 for a new pitch cylinder mower and FrogBox, while Barnsley United Junior Soccer Club has secured $13,277 for its Barnsley Bulldogs – Everyone Kicking Goals project.
Bellbird Junior Football Club will receive $2,217 for club equipment, Mount Sugarloaf Croquet Club Inc has been awarded $8,000 for new croquet mallets for loan when learning to play, and Wine Country Cricket Club will receive $10,299 for its ground improvement initiative.
Cardiff Boolaroo District Cricket Club Inc has secured $3,496 for turf cricket pitch covers and tarpaulins, while Abermain Rams Football Club Inc will receive $9,653 towards enhancing Mini Roos Football with portable goals.
Member for Cessnock Clayton Barr said the funding would help local clubs expand opportunities for the community.
“This funding will help our local clubs and their army of volunteers to provide more opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the benefits of sport and active recreation.”
Mr Barr said the grants would support clubs across multiple sports to upgrade important equipment and resources.
“The Local Sport Grant Program funding will help 7 local clubs across multiple sports to upgrade vital equipment and resources to enable more local residents to participate in sport.
“I congratulate local sports organisations that were successful in securing funding.”

“I congratulate the more than 500 sports organisations across NSW that were successful in securing funding and commend them for their commitment to our collective health, wellbeing and sense of identity.”
