Man arrested after alleged hammer assault during Glendale home invasion

newy.com.au – A man is in police custody after another man was allegedly assaulted with a hammer during a home invasion in Glendale on Saturday morning.

Emergency services were called to a home on Manuel Street about 7.30am after reports a man had broken into the house and assaulted the occupant.

Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District arrived and found a 34-year-old man with serious head injuries. Police were told the man was inside the home when a 51-year-old man, known to him, allegedly broke in and struck him with a hammer.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the injured man at the scene before taking him to hospital in a serious condition.

A hammer was seized from the home for forensic examination. Police established a crime scene and began an investigation into the incident.

A short time later, Lake Macquarie police arrested a 51-year-old man on Clare Street, Glendale. He was taken to Toronto Police Station, where inquiries are continuing.
