newy.com.au – An 18-year-old man has died in hospital days after a single-vehicle crash at Pelaw Main in the Hunter Valley, where the car he was driving hit a power pole on Leggetts Drive, about 2km south of Kurri Kurri. Emergency services were called about 3.45pm on Tuesday, March 10.
The driver was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition. Police were notified about 8.15am on Sunday, March 15, that he had died.
In the immediate aftermath, traffic updates listed Leggetts Drive near HEZ Drive as closed in both directions, while Cessnock District Rescue Squad said the impact broke the power pole into several pieces. A radio report at the time said power was also out in the area, with Ausgrid estimating supply would be restored by 7pm.
Hunter Valley Police District is investigating the circumstances of the crash and will prepare a report for the Coroner. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
