newy.com.au – Maitland City Council has called for expressions of interest for three advisory committees, with nominations open now and closing on Friday 20 March 2026.
Council said the committees would bring together community voices, lived experience and specialist knowledge to help inform decision making and shape priorities for the Maitland local government area.
The call covers a community position on the Awards and Recognition Committee, which advises on suitable award recipients including Freeman of the City, Australia Day awards and Maitland City Service Awards, and a community position on the Sport, Recreation and Leisure Committee to advise on strategies around active lifestyles, inclusion and access to recreation.
A stakeholder representative is also being sought for the Environment and Sustainability Committee, which advises on strategies to protect the environment and promote sustainable development.
Mayor Philip Penfold said the representatives would help guide decisions that strengthen the relationship between council and the community “for a connected and thriving Maitland”. “The most meaningful impacts come from collaboration and stronger communities are built on engagement,” Penfold said.
Penfold said council was looking for people with “lived experience, local knowledge or professional expertise” who could “potentially bring new ideas and thinking to actively contribute to Maitland’s future”. Council said successful nominees would be advised by 10 April 2026, ahead of the next round of committee meetings.
