[UPDATED]

Newy.com.au – A 34-year-old man has been taken to John Hunter Hospital with serious lower body injuries after a trail bike crash on Main Road at Cardiff during the afternoon peak on Thursday, 26 February 2026.

NSW Police said emergency services were called to Main Road about 4.40pm following reports a trail bike left the roadway and crashed into a traffic light pole, ejecting the rider.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District attended and discovered the rider was disqualified, and they were told the bike had been removed from the scene before they arrived.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man at the scene before he was taken to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment.

A newy.com.au reporter arrived at the scene shortly after the crash but could not locate the reported motorbike. A witness later alleged other riders took the bike away after the crash and left the injured rider at the scene.

The crash caused extensive traffic delays on multiple streets surrounding the crash scene.

Police said investigations have commenced into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
