newy.com.au – Lake Macquarie City Council will host a free educational breakfast and training session for builders and site managers on Wednesday 4 March 2026 at Redhead Surf Lifesaving Club.
The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) eligible session is being held ahead of the council’s annual ‘Get the Site Right’ compliance blitz, which involves inspections to ensure construction sites meet essential environmental protection standards, with an emphasis on run off controls.
Acting Manager Environmental Regulation and Compliance Wes Hain said the morning would offer practical guidance to help contractors get erosion and sediment controls right before inspections begin.
“When erosion and sediment controls are lacking on building sites, the fallout can be serious, from polluted creeks to destruction of local habitats and wildlife,” he said.
The educational session will cover erosion and sediment controls, legal responsibilities, council expectations for compliance, and best practice strategies to minimise environmental impact.
“With more inspections on the way, Council is keen to work alongside builders and contractors to help them avoid costly slip-ups and play a part in protecting the natural beauty our region is known for,” Mr Hain said.
A question-and-answer segment is also planned to allow participants to seek advice and share experiences from their own sites.
“It’s not just about ticking a box or dodging fines, it’s about making sure we protect our environment and keep our community safe,” Mr Hain said.
The event is open to site supervisors, project managers and others responsible for erosion and sediment control on building sites, with breakfast from 7am to fit around working hours.
