Woman found dead after Corlette house fire as police establish crime scene

newy.com.au – A woman has died after a house fire on Bagnall Beach Road at Corlette in the Port Stephens area on Friday 20 February 2026.

Emergency services were called to the address about 6.45pm after reports of a fire, with Fire and Rescue NSW crews later extinguishing the blaze. The home suffered extensive damage.

NSW Police said the woman was found dead inside the house. She has not yet been formally identified.

Officers from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District have established a crime scene, with an investigation under way into the circumstances surrounding the fire. A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Police urged anyone with information to contact Port Stephens-Hunter Police District or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. “Information is managed on a confidential basis,” the police statement said.

Inquiries are continuing.
