newy.com.au – A 52-year-old man will face court on Wednesday charged with attempted murder after a domestic violence related incident at Fletcher near Newcastle.

NSW Police allege he threw a Molotov cocktail into a home on Cottonwood Chase about 12.20am on Tuesday 17 February 2026, causing a small fire before an altercation left an occupant seriously wounded.

A Molotov cocktail is an improvised incendiary device, typically a bottle filled with flammable liquid and a cloth wick.

The 53-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital in a critical condition, police said.

Detectives from Newcastle City Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, police arrested the 52-year-old about 5am on Drovers Way in the Sydney suburb of Lindfield and took him to Chatswood Police Station.

He was charged with attempt murder (DV), and damage property by fire/explosive with intent to injure (DV).

The man was refused bail to appear before Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday 18 February 2026.
